A site and soil assessment typically runs $1,200 to $2,500, and system design for a Type 1 or Type 2 system typically runs $1,500 to $3,500.
The site and soil assessment
We dig test pits and read the soil across your lot to see what it can support — how it drains, where the water table sits, and how much usable area you have for a field. That reading is what the design is built on.
Designing a Type 1 or Type 2 system
Once we've read the soil, we draw up the system — tank size, field layout and, for a Type 2 system, the added treatment needed to bring effluent under 45 mg/L suspended solids and 45 mg/L five-day biochemical oxygen demand. As a ROWP, we can design and install any Type 1 or Type 2 system under 9,100 litres a day.
Filing with Island Health
The design fee also covers what Island Health asks for before construction starts — plans and specifications, a site plan, the filing form itself, and any covenants, easements or hydrogeological reports that apply to your property.
